Objective: The 8U Jamboree focus is to expose the 8U players to the next level of play and to showcase the improvements they have made throughout the season.
Rules
- Each team will play 3 games
- Players will use 11" softball
- Coach pitch
- 5 pitches total; must put ball in play, not putting the ball in play results in a strike out. No tee will be provided, no walks allowed. (modified rules).
- All pitching will be off the pitching rubber at 35 feet.
- Innings are over after 3 outs completed by defense or strike-outs.
- 5 run limit.
- A score book will be kept by both teams.
- Umpires are present to make official calls on outs.
- Coaches are encouraged to be on the field, but not interfere with play. Please stand in outfield or foul territory.
- Catchers are required to wear all equipment (helmet, chest protector, shin guard, etc.)
- Facemasks are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for all players.
- Outs made
- Fielding the ball and throwing to a base to get the force out, catching a pop up, tagging a runner, or strike-outs.
- No bunting is allowed.
- No walking is allowed.
- Stealing; passed ball by the catcher and unoccupied second base the runner may steal second.
- No advancing on overthrows by the catcher to pitcher.
- Play ends when the ball returns to the pitcher circle and the pitcher player has control.
- Runners may advance bases on overthrows from fielders to the base, one base per overthrow.
- Example: fielder overthrows first base, runner may advance to second base. If fielder then throws the ball to second and it is overthrown, player may advance to third base.
- Players may advance as many bases as they can until the play ends (when the ball is returned to the circle).
- Example: batter hits the ball and fielders miss/kick it around, let it roll, or is in the outfield, the batter may advance as many bases as they can. Once an attempt at a play is made the runner may then only advance one base per overthrow.
- The goal being that the defense must gain control of the ball and be trying to make the play.
